BANGALORE: Following is the sequence in which the seven bomb blasts rocked the country's IT hub on Friday.

1st blast: 1.20 pm, Madiwala bus depot

2nd blast: 1.25 pm, Mysore road

3rd blast: 1.40 pm, Adugudi

4th blast: 2.10 pm, Koramangla

5th blast: 2.25 pm, Vittal Mallaya road

6th blast: 2.35 pm, Langford Town

7th blast: Richmond Town

 

Once again, there has been a senseless terror attack on an Indian town. It is Bangalore’s turn to be at the receiving end. Seven low-intensity blasts have been reported from across India’s IT capital on Friday afternoon. Terror outfits SIMI and the Lashkar-e-Toiba are suspected to be behind the blasts, which are thought to be retaliatory in nature. Will this maddening spiral of death and destruction ever stop? Is there a way out? Or are we condemned to live our lives in fear of a cowardly mass attack that can hurt or kill our loved ones.

The iPhone 3G will be available as early as next month in India reports Techtree. As we had reported earlier, the phone was expected sometime in October from both Vodafone and Airtel. The report indicates an earlier launch date of August. Moreover, Vodafone will enjoy a 15-day first-to-market window in India. The early release for Vodafone is thanks to a world-wide deal between Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) and Vodafone (NYSE: VOD).

The 8GB variant is slated to be released first. What’s available for $200 in the U.S. is expected to be priced between Rs. 11,500 and Rs. 12,000. This does not include the data rates, of course, details on which are not due until mid-August.

While on the price, the total-cost of an iPhone has been an point of debate: while it is true that the entry-price for the cell phone has decreased, AT&T (NYSE: T) has actually increased data rates for web surfing (to $30 for 3G, from $20 originally charged for the iPhone) and SMS ($5 to match the original’s 200 message plan), which has led to a total-cost-of-ownership that is actually $160 more than the original iPhone.

While similar data on Indian pricing is not available, we could assume the Indian carriers taking a leaf out of the AT&T policy.

What about 3G? Availability on the high-speed cellular network is still a nebulous ‘sometime this year’. It certainly looks a distance away, it was recently reported by BusinessWeek that rollout might happen as late as the first quarter of 2009. It would be interesting to see the impact of the iPhone 3G without the 3G connectivity, since most of the third-party applications that make the iPhone so useful, directly leverage the speeds made available through 3G.

Speaking of third-party, while the App Store is already available in India via iTunes, the pricing is still at international standards (read: expensive, compared to free)

To charge Rs 1 lakh for every five-minute feed

It's going to be a field day for the 40-odd news channels in the country as they gear up to cover the UPA Government's trust vote on July 22.
From special polls to covering the behind the scenes story, the news channels are terming it as the ‘biggest drama that will get unfolded on television live'.

Amidst this, Lok Sabha TV, the dedicated satellite channel for covering the proceedings of Lok Sabha live, has already despatched letters to all major news channels along with its rate-card for using its signals.

News channels that use more than five-minutes of its feed of the Parliament's proceedings (on July 21, 22) will have to fork out Rs 100,000 for the event.

"We have had the practice of billing the news channels for using our special coverage like General Budget, Rail Budget and No-Confidence voting. And these billings are charged on per-event basis," Sunit Tondon, the newly appointed CEO, Lok Sabha TV, told Business Standard.

Lok Sabha TV is the only authorised television channel that covers all the proceedings in the Lower House of Parliament.

Its signals are taken by the various news channels, specially for events like the Budget and special sittings of Parliament.

Media experts are expecting high ratings on July 22, specially in the evenings when the the voting is scheduled to take place.

"It would be interesting to compare the ratings at the time of voting with some of the popular shows on television," a media expert said.

In order to move away from its dependence on the signals of Lok Sabha TV, the news channels have lined up their owns shows and surveys.

AC Nielsen has done a survey for Star News across 19-cities to gauge the mood of the people before the crucial trust vote. "We are calling it Desh ka Vishwas Mat where people will give their verdict much before July 22. We will of course keep tracking the stories behind the number-game in the trust vote backed by graphics," Shazi Zaman, Editor, MCCS—the company that broadcasts STAR News, STAR Majha and STAR Ananda.

The Lok Sabha secretariat too has made special arrangements for coverage of parliamentary proceedings.

Hundreds of media passes have been given out and giant TV screens will be set up in two conference rooms within the Lok Sabha premises and at a place where the TV crews set up their cameras, said Lok Sabha Secretary General P D T Achary.

            GMX Mail is a reliable email service filtered well of spam and viruses whose 5 GB of online storage you can use not only through a rich web interface but also via POP or IMAP from a desktop email program.
More and smarter ways to organize mail could be nice.

 

4. Yahoo! Mail - Free Email Service

 

            Yahoo! Mail is your ubiquitous email program on the web with unlimited storage and RSS news feeds, SMS texting and instant messaging to boot.
While Yahoo! Mail is generally a joy to use, free-form labeling and smart folders would be nice, and the spam filter could catch junk even more effectively.

 

5. Inbox.com - Free Email Service

 

            Inbox.com not only gives you 5 GB to store your mail online but also a highly polished, fast and functional way to access it via either the web (including speedy search, free-form labels and reading mail by conversation) or through POP in your email program.
Unfortunately, IMAP access is not supported by Inbox.com, and its tools for organizing mail could be improved with smart or self-teaching folders.

 

6. Gawab.com - Free Email Service

 

            Gawab.com is a speedy, stable and very usable free email service with 2 GB online space, POP access and many a web-based goodie.
It's a pity Gawab.com lacks IMAP access and full message search.

 

7. Zenbe - Free Email Service

 

            Zenbe organizes your emails and attachments (from Zenbe and existing POP accounts) with labels and search — and integrates calendar, to-do list, Facebook updates, too.
With a focus on elegant simplicity, Zenbe provides many sweet shortcuts but also shows quirks and omissions in others. The spam filter is good but IMAP and POP access missing.

 

8. FastMail Guest Account - Free Email Service

 

            FastMail is a great free email service with IMAP access, useful features, one of the best web-based email interfaces and few ads.

 

9. Yahoo! Mail Classic - Free Email Service

 

            Yahoo! Mail Classic is a comfortable, reliable and secure email service with unlimited storage. A pretty good spam filter keeps the junk out, and you can send rich emails using Yahoo! Mail's HTML editor.

 

10. Windows Live Hotmail - Free Email Service

 

            Windows Live Hotmail is a free email service that gives you a 5 GB of online storage, fast search, solid security and an interface easy as a desktop email program.
When it comes to organizing mail, Windows Live Hotmail does not go beyond folders (to saved searches and tags, for example), its spam filter could be more effective, and POP or IMAP access are missing.

I was walking around in a BigBazar store making shopping, when I saw a Cashier talking to a boy couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old.
 
The Cashier said, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy
this doll.  Then the little boy turned to me and asked: ''Uncle, are  you sure I don't have enough money?''
 
I counted his cash and replied: ''You know that you don't have enough money to buy the doll , my dear.''  The little boy was still holding the  doll in his hand.
 
Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this
doll to.  'It's the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much . I wanted to Gift her for her BIRTHDAY.
 
I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it
to my sister when she goes there.'  His eyes were so sad while saying this. 'My Sister has gone to be with  God.  Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought  that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister.''
 
My heart nearly stopped.  The little boy looked up at me and said: 'I told daddy to tell mommy not  to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.'  Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing. He  then told me 'I want mommy to take my picture with her so my sister won't  forget me.'  'I love my mommy and I wish she doesn't have to leave me, but daddy says  that she has to go to be with my little sister.' Then he looked again at  the doll with sad eyes, very quietly.
 
I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. 'Suppose we check
again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll?''
'OK' he said, 'I hope I do have enough.' I added some of my money to his  with out him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the  doll and even some spare money.
 
The little boy said: 'Thank you God for giving me enough money!'
Then he looked at me and added, 'I asked last night before I went to
sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that
mommy could give It to my sister. He heard me!''  'I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy,
but I didn't dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy  the doll and a white rose. My mommy loves white roses.'
 
I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started.
I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local
news paper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck,  who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical state.
The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine,
because the young woman would not be able to recover from the  coma. Was this the family of the little boy?
 
Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the news
paper that the young woman had passed away.. I couldn't stop myself as I  bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the  body of the young woman was exposed for people to see and make last  wishes before her burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a
beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and
the doll placed over her chest. I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling
that my life had been changed for ever.
 
The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still,
to this day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second, a drunk
driver had taken all this away from him.
